Halloween

I spent Halloween in Den Haag this year and we had to make our own Halloween because they don't really celebrate it here. At least not in October. The Dutch have this thing on November 13th supposedly, that is kind of like Halloween but kids don't dress up, they go door to door singing for candy or something. Stay tuned, I'll tell you all about it after it happens here.

So, in order to make our own Halloween we went out and got these miny pumpkins and carved them as best as we could, We really looked hard to find the big pumpkins but they seemed no where to be found. So, we finally found a few small pumpkins at the grocery store and picked the best two out of the 6 or so sad, uneven pumpkins and figured we would make due with those. Then, we also got all these baby pumpkins and corn and squash and stuff to make decorations around the house with. Finally we bought our own candy and just had fun. The night before Halloween we carved our pumpkins, which I have to admit was pretty fun. Back in the US now, there are pumpkin kits and everything to make fancy looking pumpkins, but these pumpkins were just done with a kitchen knife. It was actually pretty fun to do.

On the actual night of Halloween, my Aunt came home and ordered us some pizza and we had our dinner and then met her friends out at this bar that was "celebrating" Halloween and hung out there and just had fun. So, that was Halloween here, not exactly the way that I would have done it at home, but probably a Halloween I won't ever forget.

That actually sounds like a really fun Halloween and at least as good as ours. As usual there were no trick-or-treaters so there is candy left for you when you get home. Lucky for you candy doesn't get stale in that time.Bestemom
